Hoi Yan Jasmine Chan
(Registered Social Worker, OCSWSSW, Canada)
Jasmine is a registered social worker, counselor, and Clinical Fellow of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), with over 25 years of experience in counseling.
She began her career as a social worker after graduating from the University of Hong Kong in 1999, counseling families, youth, and children from lower socioeconomic backgrounds through times of transition, struggle, and crisis. Over the years, Jasmine has assisted thousands of clients. She spent 18 years working at a family service center in Hong Kong, where she also served as assistant director for three years, supervising social workers. She later relocated to Toronto to continue her work in psychotherapy.
Jasmine specializes in helping clients navigate depression, anxiety, trauma, self-image issues, gambling recovery, and complex relationship dynamics, including parent-child, intergenerational, couple, and family challenges. Her approach is compassionate and mindful, integrating family systems theory with emotionally-focused and cognitive techniques. She creates a safe, welcoming space for clients to experience healing, growth, and resilience.
Since 2016, Jasmine has been teaching mindfulness after completing the Foundation Course in Teaching Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), developed by Professor Mark Williams of the Oxford Mindfulness Centre, one of her trainers. By combining mindfulness practices with cognitive behavioral strategies, she helps clients interrupt cycles of distress and reconnect with the present moment.
She has also completed AAMFT Fundamentals of Supervision course and provides supervision to counsellors, psychotherapist and social workers, supporting them in pursuing their careers, AAMFT clinical membership, and fostering professional development in the next generation.
In her own time, she enjoys family moment with her two teenage children. She enjoys hiking and cooking She also finds hiking and cooking to be therapeutic activities that rejuvenate her inner being.
